Cthulhu Flower

Cthulhu Flower

As another example of my essential immaturity, I remain a fan of H. P. Lovecraft. (But the Library of America has published a volume of his works; Penguin has published three volumes of his works; and the Modern Library published his novel At the Mountains of Madness. Perhaps he wasn’t so bad after all . . .)

I found this flower today (13 July 2013) at Uncommon Gardens on Lyndale in south Minneapolis. The flower ineluctably brought to mind Lovecraft’s descriptions of Cthulhu. (A web search will satisfy any who may be curious about Cthulhu.)

I’m pretty sure that this flower will not bloom into some crawling chaos that will lead to the destruction of life on earth. But–hey, ya never know, right?
